With a 435km length, 225km width and a land area of 65, 525 sq km, 8% of Sri Lankas area is set aside as nature and wild life reserves.

Sri Lanka despite its size boasts of 14 declared national parks, which are scattered throughout the Island. The very first sanctuary ever in the world was declared in Sri Lanka at Mihintale with the advent of Buddhism in the year 247 BC.

Safaris in the National parks are very popular with Tourists and are often the highlight event for many.

Some of the popular National Parks are Yala, Bundala, Udawalave, Minneriya, kaudulla, Wasgamuwa and Wilpattu, where one could see Elephants, Leopards, Wild Buffalo, Deer, Sambhur, Wild Boar, Bear, Monkey, Giant Squirrel, Jackal, Crocodile and many spices of Birds including Endemics of Sri Lanka.

Camping and night stay overs in National Parks are possible by prior arrangement.
