The
unique concept of the Elephant Orphanage of Pinnawala is one of
the most visited sites of Sri Lanka. Founded in the year 1975, with
three baby Elephants found abandoned in the forest, is today the
home of nearly 65 Elephants of Different ages and sizes. Roaming
on a land extent of 25 acres where they are red bathed and cared
for. |
It
could be interesting to know that one of the finest babies brougt
in is now a GRANDMA. These great animals are never sold or put into
any commercial use. Bottle feeding of the baby elephants is the
highlight event of this place. The Elephants are led to River (acorss
the street) Twice a Day where they spend 02 Hours each time soaking,
Rolling over, Spraying Water and being scrubbed by their Keepers.
It is by far one of the most interesting places no matter if you
Adult or Kid. |
